SSANIP urges Ogun State to increase Moshood Abiola Polytechnic funding and provide intervention for accreditation and infrastructure improvement

The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) chapter, has appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun to provide urgent financial intervention to address the institution’s chronic underfunding and infrastructural challenges.

In a statement issued Monday by SSANIP’s Chairman, Tunde Abiodun, and Secretary, Olutosin Ogundeyi, the union highlighted that while the Polytechnic’s monthly salary obligations exceed ₦210 million, the state government provides a meagre ₦20.75 million monthly subvention — a position unchanged for over a decade despite economic pressures.

The association noted that the management has relied heavily on internally generated revenue to cover shortfalls and maintain basic infrastructure, a situation further compounded by declining student enrolment due to accreditation challenges, competition from other institutions, and infrastructural limitations.

SSANIP also stressed the urgent need to fund accreditation exercises mandated by the National Board for Technical Education, which require significant investment in laboratories, workshops, libraries, teaching equipment, and staff development.

Without adequate funding, some programmes risk losing accreditation, further reducing student intake and the Polytechnic’s competitiveness.

The union called for extensive rehabilitation, modernization, and expansion of facilities to meet contemporary teaching, learning, and technological standards, noting that such investments would enhance educational quality and strengthen MAPOLY’s role in technical education, youth empowerment, and entrepreneurship development.

“In view of the foregoing, SSANIP MAPOLY calls on the Ogun State Government to urgently review the current level of subvention to the Polytechnic, and provide special financial intervention for programme accreditation and infrastructure development,” the statement said.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to industrial harmony and urged prompt government action to safeguard the institution, its staff, students, and the future of technical education in Ogun State.
