Victoria Orenze sparks reactions after seemingly responding to Yinka Alaseyori’s comments on insecurity and government performance

Gospel singer and worship leader Victoria Orenze has stirred widespread reactions online after she publicly expressed disappointment in some church leaders and believers, in remarks many interpreted as a response to comments made by fellow gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori.

The debate began after Yinka Alaseyori’s comments on the abduction of schoolchildren in Oyo State triggered mixed reactions online, with some defending government efforts while others criticised her position.

In a strongly worded statement shared on social media, Orenze criticised what she described as the misuse of religion for personal gain.

She said: “Honestly I am disappointed in some ministers, church goers, who just use the name of the Lord for profit!”

Orenze also addressed public conversations around government performance, arguing that many Nigerians judge leadership based on personal benefit rather than the suffering of the majority.

She stated: “Which government is working? Nigerian government, politicians and leaders have failed Nigeria and Nigerians. Period.”

The gospel singer further criticised what she called “stomach Christianity,” insisting that some individuals defend systems of power while ignoring injustice affecting ordinary citizens.

She added: “Those who don’t hear GOD but yet want to speak on HIS behalf! Whenever a few are benefiting from a government, they say the government is working… GOD CANNOT BE MOCKED!”

Her comments quickly gained traction online, with many social media users interpreting the remarks as a subtle counter to Yinka Alaseyori’s earlier position on the role of prayer and government response in addressing insecurity.

The exchange has since sparked debate within the gospel music community and among Nigerians online, with supporters on both sides defending their perspectives.
