Burna Boy’s ‘I Told Them’ tour becomes Africa’s highest-grossing, earning $30.5m from 302,801 tickets across Europe and North America

Nigerian singer Burna Boy has made history with his ‘I Told Them’ tour, becoming the highest-grossing tour by an African artist ever.

The tour, which spanned 22 shows across Europe and North America, generated $30.5 million from 302,801 tickets sold, according to a report by a tour monitoring platform.

Burna Boy also set a record for the highest-grossing concert by any African artist with a single show at London Stadium, London, on June 29, 2024.

The performance earned $6.147 million from 58,973 tickets sold, forming a highlight of the record-breaking tour.

Revenue from the tour included $15.19 million from 152,378 tickets sold across 16 North American shows, while six European shows contributed $15.27 million from 150,423 tickets.

“I Told Them… is officially the highest-grossing tour by any Afrobeat artist in history,” the monitoring platform tweeted, celebrating Burna Boy’s unprecedented achievement.

While the tour sets a new benchmark for African artists, global superstar Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras’ tour remains the world’s highest-grossing, having earned $2 billion across 149 shows over 21 months. Burna Boy’s tour, however, doubled the previous record held by Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.

The success of ‘I Told Them’ underscores Burna Boy’s growing international influence and the global rise of Afrobeat music.
