The Enugu State Police Command’s spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Wednesday, stating that officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad took Ugwumba into custody on September 28.
Ugwumba’s arrest follows credible intelligence linking him to a child trafficking network. Police revealed that he had been involved in child trafficking since 2017, managing Chima Hospital and Maternity in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area. During his arrest, a pregnant woman and two young female children, aged four and two, were rescued.
Investigators discovered that between 2017 and 2024, he conspired with others, including a ministry staff member, to conduct the ante-natal care and delivery of seven untraceable children.
The police are continuing their investigation, and further details will be provided as the case unfolds.
