Enugu Rangers appoint bribed former Super Eagles coach

Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) club Enugu Rangers have confirmed the appointed bribed Super Eagles boss Salisu Yusuf as the new head coach of the side.

The 57-year-old Zaria-born tactician was found guilty of collecting an amount of money reported to be around $1000 (N357, 000) from undercover journalists posing as football agents who wanted him to select two players for the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Morocco.

Yusuf who has served the one–year suspension will now combine his new job as Enugu Rangers technical adviser with that of being an assistant coach for Nigeria’s national team after Enugu Rangers have sacked coach Benedict Ugwu following the club after 2-0 home defeat to the newly-promoted side Akwa Starlets in the league matchday-five encounter at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium on Sunday.

The Flying Antelopes Media Officer Norbert Okolie confirmed that Yusuf and will be assisted by Mbwas Mangut and John Edeh as the trio are determined to help the team get positive results.

“They both desire positive results and the management is happy with NFF’s support,” said Okolie.

Yusuf said: “I am here on a technical assistance from the federation (NFF) as Rangers is representing the country in continental club football,”

“We hope to take the team to the next level from where they are now and it is not going to be easy.

“We need to change some things but is going to be a gradual process.”

Yusuf’s first game in charge will be Sunday’s Confederation Cup Group A fixture against visiting Egyptian side Pyramids as Enugu Rangers will also face Mauritania’s Nouadhibou and another Egyptian side Al Masry, in the continental tournament.
