Speaking at the Government House in Gombe on Tuesday during the presentation of cheques to beneficiaries, Yahaya said the payment covered 3,204 retirees across the state.
According to him, ₦6.6 billion was approved for 2,142 state government retirees, while ₦1.6 billion was set aside for 1,062 local government retirees.
“Today, we are disbursing a further ₦8.2bn in gratuity arrears to state and local government retirees,” Yahaya announced. “This comprises ₦6.6 billion for 2,142 retirees of the State Government, and ₦1.6 billion for 1,062 retirees from our Local Government Areas.”
The governor explained that payments were structured according to the financial capacity of each tier of government. Retirees at the state level will receive arrears for 2021, 2022, and 2023, while local government beneficiaries will be paid based on their respective council areas and service years.
With the latest disbursement, total gratuity payments made since 2019 now stand at ₦33.826 billion, marking the highest in Gombe State’s history.
Yahaya said, “In the entire history of Gombe State, no administration has shown a comparable commitment to the welfare of our retirees. We are determined to ensure that every retiree lives a life of dignity after a lifetime of service.”
The governor attributed the milestone to prudent financial management and transparent governance, describing the exercise as both “a matter of principle and sacred trust.”
He added that his administration would continue to prioritise the welfare of pensioners and maintain a steady payment structure to eliminate all outstanding arrears.
“No one who has faithfully served Gombe State should be left to suffer due to unpaid entitlements,” Yahaya stated.
