‘How dare you?!’ Buhari suspends Twitter in Nigeria

If the information reaching Freelanews is true, then the federal government of Nigeria has suspended, indefinitely, the operations of microblogging and social networking service, Twitter, in Nigeria.

Recall that the two entities faced off recently when the micro-blogging site deleted two posts by the Nigerian president, Mohammadu Buhari, as they were believed to run foul of the rules guiding responsible use of the platform.

Buhari, in a bid to stamp his authority over insecurity, wrote on his Twitter page how his government planned to tackle insugency in the south-eastern part of the country by mentioning the genocide of past civil war fought against the Igbo.

This statement didn’t go down well with Nigerians who reported the post to the Twitter and demanded that it should be brought down.

Twitter reacted by bringing down the post and at the same deleted all other contents related to the said statement.

In other news, Facebook, another social media platform, is already considering more rules to determine what politicians post on their pages.
