The governor, in a warm and elaborate ceremony, handed over brand-new Toyota SUVs to monarchs across the state, describing the act as a “historic milestone” in advancing the welfare of the traditional institution.

Governor Aiyedatiwa said the move reflected his administration’s respect for the custodians of culture and guardians of peace at the grassroots.

Grade A Obas received the latest Toyota Fortuner 2025 models, while Grade B and C Obas are set to receive Toyota Corolla Cross 2025 models in due course.

Speaking at the event, the governor recalled how his government had completed the long-abandoned Council of Obas Secretariat and ensured the prompt payment of the statutory five per cent allocation from local government funds to traditional institutions.

He described the SUVs as “symbols of dignity, honour and respect”.

Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Amidu Takuro, applauded the governor’s fulfilment of his promise, noting that the traditional rulers had been instrumental in maintaining peace and unity across the state. He urged the royal fathers to put the vehicles to good use.

Responding on behalf of the monarchs, the Olowo of Owo and Chairman of the Ondo State Council of Obas, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, expressed heartfelt gratitude, describing Aiyedatiwa’s gesture as both generous and inspiring.

He pledged continued cooperation between the royal institution and the government.
