The source disclosed on Sunday that Malami has been barred from leaving the country for one month and must report daily to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, a condition tied to his release on Saturday.
The source explained that Malami would only be permitted to travel with explicit EFCC approval or a court order.
The Malami Probe centres on funds reportedly recovered through a Mutual Legal Assistance request. Investigators say the former minister must clarify key issues in the coming weeks.
The source stressed that while no theft has been alleged, Malami must account for the enormous sum, adding that the probe requires reviewing a high volume of documents and conducting extensive interviews.
The commission stated it would avoid public exchanges and instead release its findings after a thorough review.
Malami in a statement on X dismissed the claims as fabricated and thanked Allah for what he called divine intervention.
He confirmed that his initial session with the EFCC was successful but did not address the seizure of his passport, insisting only that the truth would soon emerge.
