‘Nationwide initiative’ Gombe corps members charged on entrepreneurship development

A total of 900 prospective corps members of the 2021Batch B Stream II deployed to Gombe State have been charged to take advantage of the NYSC/Bank of Industry Graduate Entrepreneurship Fund (GEF) through expert guidance in the writing and funding of bankable business proposals.

The advice was given by Gombe State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Ada Imoni during the opening ceremony of the 2021 Batch ‘B’ Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development held at the NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp Amada, Akko LGA of Gombe State, on Monday.

She maintained that with the increasing rate of unemployment among Nigerian graduates, the skills acquisition programe was introduced into the Orientation Course content in order to build the capacity of corps members.

It will also enable the corps members to gain the required entrepreneurship and hands-on skills to to be able to cope with the challenges of unemployment and global socio-economic down turn.

Ada Imoni also said that the programme is a nationwide initiative targeting the Nigerian graduates mobilised for the one year National service irrespective of their places of primary assignment.

She added that it was designed to be implemented within the framework of the camp (in-camp) and the service year ( post-camp) of corps members.

Prospective Corps members will be trained on the following set skills and sub-sets: Agro-allied, food processing
culture and tourism, cosmetology and Information and Communication Technology.

Other trades are construction, environment, beautification, power and energy, education, film/photography and automobile fixing.

During the program, there was motivational talk by Mrs Mary Bahago Ibrahim, CEO of House of Dellah Collectibles and Mr Victor Akpan, CEO Febstar International Driving School.

Alh Mustapha Hassan, the State Coordinator National Directorate of Employment also delivered lecture on Entrepreneurship Development with about 900 Prospective Corps members were at the programme.
