The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF has lied to the global football community after it reported that the Super Falcons – Nigeria’s name for senior women’s football team – reached the quarter-final of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand without losing a match in regulation.

The federation stated this in a communique it issued through its Director of communication, Ademola Olajire on Monday

In point three of the communique issued after the its Executive Committee meeting in Uyo , Akwa Ibom State on Sunday, the federation said: “While commending the Super Falcons for an impressive outing at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023, in which the team reached the quarter-finals and exited the tournament without losing a match in regulation period, the Board reiterated that all hands must be on deck to ensure that the momentum is maintained and even improved with adequate support and encouragement of women’s football in all ramifications,”it read.

However, Mr Olajire realizing the goof quickly sent out an edited version of the communique expunging the obvious misinformation.

The Super Falcons, it could be recalled reached the last 16 of the World Cup where they exited the tournament after losing penalties against finalists, England.

The played out a goalless draw against Canada, beat co-host Australia 3-2 before concluding their group game with another goalless score against Republic of Ireland.
