The politician says his commitment to public service remains intact as he takes time to decide his next political move

A prominent Ogun State politician has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress, saying the decision followed an extended period of travelling, family time and personal reflection, while leaving open the possibility of a new direction in his political career.

The politician announced the resignation on Thursday, August 27, 2026, saying he had informed the leadership of the APC in Ogun State and formally submitted his resignation letter.

In a statement explaining his decision, he said his time in the governing party had been an important part of his political journey and expressed gratitude for the relationships and experiences gained during his membership.

“After an extended period of travelling and spending time with family and following much thought and quiet reflection, I have decided to resign my membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC),” he said.

He, however, stressed that leaving the party did not amount to an exit from public life.

“It is, therefore, important to reiterate that I am not stepping away from public service. I am taking the next step in the journey,” he said.

The Ogun APC stalwart resigns at a politically sensitive period in the state, with political activities already gathering momentum ahead of the 2027 general election.

The former APC member said he had reached a point where he needed to reassess his political path and determine how best to continue contributing to Ogun State and Nigeria.

“At this point in my journey, I believe it is important to consider carefully how best I can continue to contribute to Ogun State and Nigeria, and I am comfortable taking the time to make that decision thoughtfully,” he said.

Rather than immediately announcing a new political affiliation, he said he would use the period ahead to reflect on the next phase of his political engagement.

His decision is also framed around a continued commitment to public service, with integrity, inclusion and competence among the values he said would guide his future choices.

“What I know with certainty is that my commitment to public service remains undiminished,” he said.

He added that his decision would be guided by “service, integrity, inclusion, competence, and a genuine desire to make a difference.”

The politician said he would temporarily return to his professional and business commitments after his holiday while considering what form his political activities would take.

The resignation adds another layer to the evolving political landscape in Ogun State, where party alignments and individual political calculations are expected to become increasingly prominent as the 2027 elections approach.

For now, however, he has stopped short of revealing whether he intends to join another political party, remain independent or pursue a different form of political engagement.

He concluded by wishing the APC and its members well, signalling an amicable departure while keeping the door open to what he described as the next stage of his political journey.

“Sometimes, moving forward requires giving oneself the space to reflect, to listen, and to decide with clarity where one truly wants to go,” he said.
