‘Primary election’ APC tasks Sanwo-Olu, Abdulrahman in race to strengthen party

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed the Governors of Lagos and Kwara, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Abdulrazaq Abdulrahman to lead reconciliation efforts in Anambra.

This followed the dispute over the outcome of the June 26 primary election which took place at Golden Tulip Hotel, Agulu Lake in Awka.

Ogun Governor Dapo Abiodun chaired the committee. Andy Uba defeated 13 other aspirants to emerge as the flagbearer.

In a statement, APC National Secretary, John Akpan Udoedehe said Sanwo-Olu and Abdulrazaq were tasked to unify and strengthen the party ahead of November 6 election.

They are to bring together all the aspirants and their supporters to join the campaign and achieve victory.

APC charged the governors to ensure feuding parties closed ranks and help the APC to defeat candidates of other political platforms.

“We look forward to a unified front and a shared commitment to support the party before, during and after the election”, Udoedehe noted.

Uba had appealed to other contestants in the APC primary to support him to become governor.

The APC election panel said total votes cast was 348,490. Uba polled 230,201, Onuwkwo Johnbosco was the runner-up with 28,746.

Others are Chidozie Nwankwo – 21,281; George Moghalu – 18,596; Paul Orajiaka – 4,348; Geoffrey Onyejeagbu – 3,414; Azuka Okwuosa – 17,189; Nwokafor Daniel – 3,335;

The rest: Ikoobasi Mokelu – 3,727; Kwebuike Ifeanyi – 1,466; Godwin Okonkwo – 5,907; Ben Etiaba – 4,244; Edozie Madu – 3,636; Maxwell Okoye – 2,540

Majority of them continued to oppose the result of the primary, alleging there was no level-playing field. The earlier called for a fresh exercise.
