Major CL Datong, who was abducted when bandits broke into the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna, last month, has regained freedom.
On August 24, 2021, bandits raided the NDA, murdering two senior officials in the process.
Colonel Ezindu Idimah, Deputy Director Army Public Relations 1 Division, Nigerian Army, confirmed Datong’s recovery from the kidnapper’s hideout on Friday night.
According to Idimah, the operation that led to his rescue resulted in the destruction of many known bandit camps in the Afaka-Birnin Gwari areas of the state.
Hundreds of bandits were killed during the operation, he alleges, particularly in the late hours of September 17, 2021.
“The soldiers arrived at a place believed to be the detention center for Maj CL Datong.
The military traded fire with the robbers in the camp, overwhelming them with superior firepower.
In the process, the gallant troops were able to rescue the abducted officer. However, the officer sustained a minor injury but he has been treated in a medical facility and handed over to NDA for further action,” he said
He commended the efforts of the NAF, DSS , Nigerian Police and “patriotic Nigerians” for their invaluable support which contributed to the success of this operation.
