Many Nigerian youths have taken to social media to carve out means of livelihood for themselves and the business of making people laugh has over the years turned out to be one of the most lucrative therein.
However, it is looking like what clients suffer in the hands of these content creators is not funny at all. From breach of contract to aloofness to sloppy deliveries, tales of woes are daily being heard from those providing the millions of naira these comedians live on.
In the case of Adeyemi Adeoye, popularly known as Yemi Elesho, it was a story of flagrant breach of contract and lost integrity as one of his clients complained bitterly about his irresponsibility and nonchalant attitude.
A source close to the unhappy owner of Soyink told Freelanews that Yemi Elesho is simply a fraud and his high sense of irresponsibility stinks to high heavens.
On further probing by our correspondent, he was informed that the client, the owner of a barbing salon located at 132, Awolowo Road, Ikoyi in Lagos State, engaged the comedian to produce skits in promoting his business.
After negotiations, an agreement was reached; Elesho was to produce skits for a period of six months on behalf of the salon and share on his social media platforms.
“It was agreed that he would produce six skits at least and share them one per month for a period of six months at eight hundred thousand naira only.
“Elesho has been paid N500,000 and another N70,000 which he requested for to rent equipment since last year but has refused to keep his own side of the bargain,” the source claimed.
It was reliably gathered that all attempts to get Yemi Elesho to hold his end after he produced just one skit proved abortive as calls made to him were neither returned nor answered since December 2020.
Freelanews spoke with the comedian and he confirmed that there was indeed a business transaction between him and Soyink Barbing Salon.
“It was true we had an agreement as was described to you but I’ve been extremely busy to go through with it.
“Nevertheless, I’ve been trying to get in contact with them to seek for their understanding about the matter and get it resolved,” he responded.
Our source, however, claimed the client was no longer interested in such ‘an unreliable’ person and had demanded a refund.
“I think the client has been nice enough and patient to a fault on this matter. As a matter of fact, not only is he no longer interested in Elesho’s skits, he wants N400,000 out of N570,000 paid to him back.
“And that is the only time he could let the matter rest. If not, Elesho may find himself making skits inside a Lagos prison,” our source who didn’t want his name in press explained.
