According to Fellow Nurses Africa, Miriam’s body was discovered by the police after a missing person report was filed by a concerned close friend who grew worried after repeated unanswered calls and her absence from work.
Fellow Nurses Africa released a statement expressing their deep sorrow over the loss of the dedicated and professional nurse.
Reports indicate that Miriam’s last shift was on Sunday of the previous week, and the alarm was raised when her friend could not reach her.
The subsequent police discovery of her lifeless body in her apartment has left colleagues and loved ones in shock and grief.
It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we report the sudden passing of one of our own, Nnena Miriam, a dedicated and professional nurse based in Leeds, United Kingdom.” – Fellow Nurses Africa.
The statement further revealed the heartbreaking circumstance that Miriam had just returned to the UK following her introduction ceremony in Nigeria, in preparation for her traditional marriage.
Tuesday, April 29th, which was intended to be a day of celebration and new beginnings, instead became a day of profound loss.
Colleagues remembered Miriam as a kind, dedicated, and resilient nurse who served her patients with care and compassion. Her untimely passing is described as a significant loss to the healthcare community.
As investigations into the circumstances of her death continue, the global African nursing community joins her family and friends in mourning this tragic event.

This incident follows a similar tragedy in March 2024 involving another Nigerian woman working in the UK, Chidimma Ezenyili, who collapsed while attending to a client and passed away shortly after.
