Political persecution in Ogun State takes a dangerous turn as Governor Dapo Abiodun serves quit and demolition notices on Otunba Gbenga Daniel’s properties, igniting outrage over political vendetta and abuse of power.

Ogun State has been thrown into political uproar as Governor Dapo Abiodun launches a fresh offensive against former governor and current senator, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, issuing contravention, quit, and demolition notices on some of his most prominent properties.

The targeted assets; Asoludero Court in Sagamu, Conference Hotels Limited Sagamu, and its annex, were hit with notices on Thursday, 8 August 2025.

Shockingly, the legal basis cited is the Ogun State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law No. 61 of 2022; legislation enacted years after the buildings were completed.

Spokesperson for OGD Media Office, Steve Oliyide accused the governor of “weaponising state power to settle political scores” and “dragging Ogun into an era where the rule of law is optional.”

“This is a calculated vendetta,” Oliyide declared.

“By issuing contravention and demolition notices simultaneously, the Abiodun administration has trampled due process.

This reckless disregard for law is the same pattern we saw with the illegal midnight demolition of DATKEM Plaza in 2023; a matter still in court, where the government keeps losing.”

The statement likened the move to political thuggery disguised as governance, warning that it sets a dangerous precedent for property rights in Nigeria.

It called on the Nigerian Bar Association, human rights groups, and civil society to push back against what it described as “a naked abuse of office.”

Senator Daniel’s legal team, according to Oliyide, is already assembling a full-scale challenge in court, vowing to hold the governor accountable for “this assault on justice and decency.”
