The announcement was made on Monday by Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Uko Udom, SAN, who explained that the decision will allow the government to revalidate existing allocations and migrate records to the new digital Akwa-GIS platform.
“Notice is hereby given of the revocation of all land allocations in Akwa Ibom State made from the 29th day of May, 2023, till date, inclusive of all government-acquired land, for the purpose of revalidating allocations and interests and for migrating to the digital Akwa-GIS platform,” Udom stated.
As part of the transition, all fresh land allocations and transactions on government land will be suspended for one month. The Directorate of Lands will also remain closed during this period.
The Attorney-General added that the revalidation exercise will last two months and will be coordinated by the GIS office at the Ministry of Lands and Town Planning.
Any land allocation, instrument, or interest not revalidated within this timeframe will be deemed invalid, according to the notice.
Observers say the move is a bold step toward transparency and efficiency, as the digital platform is expected to reduce disputes, strengthen accountability, and streamline access to land records.
