Ore ti o common is a popular name a popular gospel musician in Nigeria is known by and the origin of this name wouldn’t come as a surprise for many who were adults during the time Tope Alabi became a music sensation.
Recently, Alabi has been the target of social media bashing when she claimed an upcoming gospel musician, Adeyinka Alaseyori, was not divinely inspired by a song, Oniduro, from her Arojinle album. Listen below:
Tope Alabi, who didn’t actually mention Alaseyori in her rants claimed that God has done a lot for her for someone to claim Holy Spirit inspired Oniduro.
“E wo a duru ohun ti Olorun je, ohun ti o se, ni eleni kan wa ni o ni duro mi e seun o.
“Olorun o se o ni duro temi o. Olorun ko ja oniduro sir.
Literally, what the senior gospel musician meant was that God is not her own guarantor because the almighty is more than that in her life.
“This is not to claim that the song is not good,” she clarified in the video, “Once the Spirit ministers a song to us, we need to analyse it properly before singing it out.”
“If these divinely inspired songs are not processed, most musicians would be singing rubbish.
“He(God) has given us the brain to digest. Chew it very well, digest it, eat it and then bring it back to life,” she lectured.
Her statement has sparked controversy and many have reprimanded her for ‘always claiming the spirit said when it was actually her own thoughts.’ Some Nigerians also opined that it was purely done out of jealousy.
“She must has been very jealous of Yinka Alaseyori because the younger singer sounds so much like her and Tope is afraid she may displace her in future,” a lady reasoned.
“Reason I never listen to gospel music is because I see them as hypocrites pretending to be praising God with their songs whereas they are as worldly as hell and are doing it for the money,” another one said.
A commentator outrightly tagged Tope Alabi a witch:
“You don’t need a pastor to interprete for you. Once you study the word you are better place to discern and make an opinion, spiritual things are things are spiritually discerned. “Oluduro” is someone who stands surety/guarantor for another, and would be held in place of the person who couldnt fulfill his contractual obligation So how else do you explain what Jesus Christ did and how the Bible said he “became the propitiation for our sins” he was sacrificed in our stead and for our sins. What does the Guarantor do when the accused person cannot fulfil his contractual obligation, is it not to pay and bear the same burden like Christ did for us and all the world according 1John2:2. Tope Alabi attempted to manipulate and dominate the kid who sang the song by alluding to the spirit, claiming that the Holy Spirit instructed her not to sing the song because it is not “heavenly inspired ” and not “subject to reasonability test” (quoting her)- this is nothing but witchcraft. Regardless of her “moral forthrightness” which she is lacks a great deal, she cannot claim spiritual dominance over other person’s spiritual inspiration. Her encounter with the Holy Spirit (if any) is subjective and personal to her and not for public consumption. The spirit of the prophet is subject to the prophet. Woe unto him/her that speaketh when the Lord has not commanded. Any spirit of manipulation is witchcraft.”
Another wrote: Did you read her reaction while she was saying her “Gibberish”. The ego with which she said it tells it all and she even lied on the Holy Spirit. What is the meaning of Oniduro?
“It is time for Alaseyori to blow but only God knows what Tope has been doing secretly to attack her. So God may have told Yinka, “Relax, I will use your enemies to lift you up.”,” somone said.
Tope Alabi is not new to controversy. She once claimed that God ministered to her that body odour prevented Him from helping some of her colleagues in the industry.
See the video below and see why many Nigerians think Tope Alabi is likely to be a hypocrite. Do you agree with them? Let’s have your views in comment box below.
