Archbishop Viganò condemns Paris Olympics’ opening ceremony as attack on faith, morality

In a stark denunciation, Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò has condemned the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games, labelling it as a profound assault on the Catholic faith and natural morality.

The Archbishop’s statement highlights the recent ceremony as part of a troubling trend, citing similar controversies at past events such as the 2012 London Olympics, the 2016 Gotthard Tunnel inauguration, and the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Viganò asserts that these events have repeatedly showcased a disturbing blend of blasphemy and obscenity, orchestrated by what he terms the “antichristic elite.”

The ceremony, according to Viganò, featured a grotesque display that included holograms of the Apocalypse’s horsemen, a provocative parody of the Last Supper, and performances he described as demeaning to both women and traditional notions of masculinity.

He criticises the event for its overt and defiant disrespect towards sacred symbols and Christian values, portraying it as part of a broader agenda to undermine moral and spiritual norms.

Viganò’s statement also targets French President Emmanuel Macron and his association with the World Economic Forum, accusing him of perpetuating a false and offensive spectacle.

The Archbishop calls for a global Christian response, urging a boycott of the Games and the withdrawal of sponsorship from companies aligned with globalist ideologies.

He demands accountability from those responsible for the event and emphasises the need for reparation through prayer, fasting, and penance.

This declaration reflects a growing discontent among religious and moral conservatives regarding the perceived erosion of traditional values in public life.

Viganò’s call to action seeks to mobilise Christians worldwide to stand against what he views as an assault on their faith and societal principles.
