LASUSTECH’s Mass Communication Department has received full ARCON accreditation, enhancing its students’ competitiveness in advertising
[dropcap]I[/dropcap]n a significant academic development, the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) has officially granted a five-year full accreditation to the Department of Mass Communication at Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) to run advertising-related courses.

This accreditation reinforces the department’s dedication to academic excellence and positions it as a key player in global competitiveness.
The accreditation process, which was completed in January 2025, marked a crucial milestone for the department. It validated the department’s commitment to adhering to the highest industry standards and best practices.
As a result, students enrolled in the programme will no longer be required to write the ARCON professional examination before applying for membership in the council.
Dr. Steven Anu’ Adesemoye, the Head of the Department of Mass Communication, expressed his elation regarding the achievement, describing it as a “significant milestone” for the department.
“We’re thrilled to have met ARCON’s rigorous standards. This accreditation will undoubtedly give our students a competitive edge in the advertising and media industries,” he said.
The newly accredited status positions the department to offer a comprehensive education in marketing communications, equipping students with the necessary skills to thrive in the fast-evolving media and communication industries.
Dr. Adesemoye emphasized that the department’s continued efforts to align with global best practices have been pivotal in achieving this success.
“This feat again validates our continued efforts to reculture and position ourselves for global competitiveness,” he added. The department’s enhanced status is set to elevate its reputation and attract greater industry collaboration.
Furthermore, the department is actively pursuing partnerships with industry stakeholders to further enrich its curriculum.
Dr. Adesemoye noted that these collaborations will provide students with valuable practical experience, preparing them for the challenges and opportunities in the advertising sector.
“We’re excited to collaborate with industry partners to further enrich our curriculum and provide our students with the skills and knowledge required to excel in the industry,” he stated.
Professor Olamuyiwa Olamade, the Dean of the College of Applied Social Sciences (CASS), also extended his congratulations to the department for this academic achievement, affirming that it marks a significant step towards enhancing LASUSTECH’s academic reputation and its contributions to the advertising field.
