Bright Chimezie, a legend in Highlife genre of music, clocked 60years on the same day Nigerians are celebrating 60years of independence.

The birthday boy shared the good news with adorable family photos to appreciate God for his goodness.

He wrote;

Hello Good people of the world, I am 60 years old today!

I feel blessed and I’m thankful to God, the maker of heaven and earth. I’m also grateful to you all.

The Zigima engine still revs.

His music style which later became known as Zigima Sound, dominated the eastern part of the country in the early 1980s. A mix of traditional Nigerian music and Igbo Highlife fused with chanted vocals, Bright Chimezie used it to revolutionize the musical structure in Nigeria with lyrics that focused on social ills of the country in a rather funny way.

He made songs like ‘Ube Nwanne’, ‘Because of English’ and African style, while his album Respect Africa brought him to limelight as he used these songs to ridicule problems in the society.

He was popular for his special dance steps known as legwork, which earn him the title ‘The duke of African music’.
