Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed says the ban on Twitter in the country will be lifted in matter of days or weeks.

Mohammed spoke on Wednesday in Abuja at a virtual Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Recalls that Nigeria hammered Twitter on June 5, 2021 after it deleted an offensive post of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Giving update at the FEC meeting in Abuja, the minister said Twitter had agreed to most of the conditions put on the table by the Nigerian government.

He disclosed that the micro blogging platform had also agreed to set up an office in Nigeria, but that the earliest it could do that was 2021.

The minister said the remaining three unresolved areas were simply a matter of ‘when’ and not ‘if’ there would be an implementation of conditions discussed.

According to him, in matter of days or weeks, the country would lift the ban placed on Twitter.

Mohammed added that the government’s negotiating committee would soon meet to put finishing touches to agreement reached with Twitter and make recommendation for the lifting of the ban.
