Awolowo House gives way to Awolowo Technology Mall, a new ICT hub in Lagos doubling its size and honoring Chief Awolowo’s legacy of innovation and excellence
Awolowo Technology Mall is set to become the next major icon of innovation in Lagos as the historic Awolowo House in Ikeja—originally built in 1978—is being transformed into a cutting-edge technology hub.

The iconic structure, long seen as a symbol of visionary leadership and progress, is undergoing a full redevelopment into a modern ICT-focused commercial complex.
The new mall is a joint initiative between Wemabod and El-Salem Nigeria Limited, designed to immortalise the legacy of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, one of Nigeria’s most revered nationalists.
The new Awolowo Technology Mall will more than double the space of the original building—from 4,800 sqm to over 9,000 sqm—offering high-grade office and commercial space specifically tailored to information and communication technology companies.
According to Mr. Ben Gbade Ojo, Managing Director of El-Salem Nigeria Limited:
“This is a place where ICT experts will congregate, where global ICT geniuses train local minds, and where world-class electronic products are within easy reach.”
He described the mall as a one-stop center for ICT products, services, training, and solutions, projecting it as the go-to destination for any electronic or digital need.
The launch of the Awolowo Technology Mall aligns with a recent Statisense report that ranks Lagos as the fastest-growing emerging tech ecosystem globally in 2025.
Analysts suggest that the mall will further reinforce Lagos’ status as Africa’s tech epicenter, attracting international technology firms and startups looking to invest in the Nigerian innovation space.
“With the A.T Mall, Lagos is not just keeping up—it’s leading,” one analyst remarked.
The developers say the mall is more than just a building—it’s a symbolic continuation of Chief Awolowo’s ideals: his passion for knowledge, innovation, and excellence.
By turning the iconic Awolowo House into a high-tech hub, the project not only preserves the memory of a national hero but also empowers a new generation of tech innovators.
“This is a fitting tribute to a man whose ideas still inspire development today,” Mr. Ojo added.
