The revered Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, has passed on at the age of 90, marking the end of an extraordinary era in Yoruba monarchy and Nigerian traditional leadership.

Sources close to the royal family confirmed the transition today, although official palace statements are still expected.
Widely respected as one of Nigeria’s most enduring monarchs, Oba Adetona reigned for over six decades, ascending the throne in April 1960.
Known for his modern vision, sharp intellect, and unwavering commitment to Ijebu unity and development, the Awujale was a symbol of continuity, cultural pride, and outspoken advocacy on national matters.
