This is the first picture of a ‘fabulous’ pregnant nurse who died of coronavirus a few days after giving birth to her daughter.
Mary Agyeiwaa Agyapong, 28, who worked on a general ward at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital, passed away on Sunday.
The young medic was admitted to the hospital on April 7 after testing positive for Covid-19 two days before.
She underwent an emergency caesarean to deliver her child after her condition deteriorated but sadly did not survive. The baby, who has been named after her mum, is understood be be safe.
At least 45 NHS workers are now thought to have died of Covid-19.
Sources at the hospital where Mary worked told Channel 4 News there have been widespread shortages of personal protective equipment (PPE).
One source said this lead to ‘widespread discontent’ among staff who feel they have been ‘exposed to the virus’ But the hospital disputed this in a statement to the broadcaster, saying there was no shortage of gowns and masks.
