Amid escalating frustrations over persistent power outages, the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has pointed to factors beyond its control as the cause of the ongoing electricity supply challenges faced by its customers in Delta, Edo, Ekiti, and Ondo States. The company cited limitations in allocation from the national grid as the primary reason for the reduction in supply hours.

Addressing its customers through its official communication channels, the BEDC acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the power cuts and issued a sincere apology for the disruptions to daily routines. The utility assured its patrons that it is actively collaborating with all stakeholders to rectify the situation promptly and restore regular power supply.
Furthermore, the BEDC attributed the nationwide power supply issues to a continuous decline in the national power grid. This revelation comes amid complaints from Nigerians about persistent power outages since December 2023, with little sign of improvement.
The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (Eko DisCo) also weighed in on the situation, blaming the power woes on gas shortages and other unspecified issues. The widespread challenges in the electricity sector have left citizens grappling with the impacts on businesses and daily life.
In a statement released on Thursday via its official channels, the BEDC acknowledged delays in completing the maintenance of critical transmission substations, specifically the Sapele Transmission Substation and Ihovbor Transmission Substation. The company attributed the delay to prevailing technical factors but assured customers that work on both substations was progressing well. They anticipate completing the maintenance process soon and restoring full capacity.
Expressing gratitude for the patience and understanding of its valued customers during this challenging period, the BEDC urged the public to remain patient as efforts are underway to address the underlying issues affecting the power supply.
The power crisis highlights the urgent need for comprehensive solutions and infrastructure improvements within the Nigerian power sector to ensure a reliable and consistent electricity supply for all citizens. As the BEDC and other electricity distribution companies work to resolve these challenges, the nation remains hopeful for a swift resolution to the protracted power issues plaguing communities across the country.
