What was meant to be the happiest day of Shauntea Weaver’s life turned into a nightmare when her fiancé, Kirk Walker, died in a tragic car accident just 24 hours before their wedding. On August 25th, instead of walking down the aisle, 40-year-old Shauntea found herself mourning the loss of the love of her life.
Kirk Walker, a 38-year-old father of three from Manhattan, was celebrating his bachelor party with his cousin, Rob McLaurin, when their lives were cut short by a wrong-way driver on the Henry Hudson Parkway in Harlem. The crash occurred at around 2:20 a.m., when a pickup truck traveling in the wrong direction collided head-on with their Dodge Challenger. Both men died at the scene.
With overwhelming grief, Shauntea shared her heartbreak, saying, “I should be wearing my wedding dress now, not grieving the loss of the love of my life. I feel like this is a TV show, and I’m going to wake up any minute and go back to my real life.” She added, “Every hour since it happened, I’m having a different emotion take me over.”
The couple had planned their wedding for that very day, with the ceremony scheduled for 5:00 p.m. A representative from the catering hall confirmed that the wedding had been canceled due to the tragic incident. “He died 24 hours before our wedding. It’s devastating, and not just for me. He has three children who loved him immeasurably. They are heartbroken that their father’s been taken,” Shauntea expressed.
Describing Kirk, she said, “He was such a generous, hard-working man. He had a heart of gold and would do anything for anybody.” The tragic loss has left not only Shauntea but also Kirk’s family and friends in deep sorrow, struggling to come to terms with the sudden and untimely death of a beloved father and partner.
