Brigadier-General Nicholas Rume assumes command of 22 Armoured Brigade, pledging stronger fight against banditry and insecurity in Kwara and neighbouring states.
Brigadier-General Nicholas Rume has officially assumed duty as the 23rd Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ilorin, pledging to intensify efforts against banditry and other security challenges in Kwara and surrounding states.

His appointment follows the recent redeployment of senior Nigerian Army officers approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede.
The formal handover ceremony took place at the Brigade Headquarters in Sobi Cantonment, Ilorin, where Brigadier-General Rume succeeded Brigadier-General Ezra Bawa Barkins.
The event included the signing of the handover notes, a farewell address by the outgoing commander, and the symbolic presentation of the command flag.
In his farewell speech, Brigadier-General Barkins expressed gratitude for the support received during his tenure and urged the troops to extend the same loyalty to his successor for sustained operational success.
He highlighted the importance of discipline and focus as the Brigade continues its operations against banditry, kidnapping, and other crimes in parts of Kwara, Kogi, and Niger States.
Brigadier-General Rume assured that he would build upon the successes of his predecessor and strengthen collaboration with security agencies to enhance peace and security in the region.
“Fighting insecurity requires teamwork, discipline, and professionalism. I am committed to working closely with all stakeholders to ensure lasting peace and safety for our people,” Rume stated.

The 22 Armoured Brigade remains a pivotal force in the North Central region, actively supporting counter-banditry, anti-kidnapping, and anti-illegal mining efforts. Brigadier-General Rume reaffirmed the Army’s dedication to protecting lives and property in Kwara State and beyond.
