There is a large gas pipeline leak in the Lagos neighborhood of Ikeja, and residents have been urged not to light any fires.
The leak was discovered at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, and responders from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), as well as the Federal and State fire services, are on their way to begin repairs.
The leak is believed to be from a pipeline that distributes gas to firms in the Ikeja industrial district.
The police from Area B Command, Ikeja, have roped off the area in preparation for the arrival of emergency services.

The South-West Region Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, in a WhatsApp message, advised people to try as much as possible to avoid the area.

He said: “Residents around Computer Village/Underbridge, Awolowo Way and Oba Akran axis, Onifowose Street, Medical Road must not open shops or use open naked fire for safety reasons.

“Distressed alert just received indicates massive leakage of gas pipeline around these areas. Let us take utmost safety precautions” he added.
