The company confirmed the disruption, with Chief Technology Officer Dane Knecht posting on X at 0920 GMT that the incident affected the availability of Cloudflare’s network but was “not an attack”. Users attempting to access affected websites encountered error messages referencing Cloudflare until around 0930 GMT.
Cloudflare provides security, traffic management, and optimisation services for websites and applications, managing roughly 20 percent of global internet traffic.
The company has experienced similar outages recently, including a major service disruption in mid-November that took many widely-used sites offline for several hours.
The Friday outage sparked widespread complaints on social media, particularly from users of X, who reported difficulties connecting to a variety of online platforms.
Cloudflare assured customers that it was investigating the incident and restoring full service.
