The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) said it has recorded seizures of smuggled drugs, clothes and foreign rice with Duty Paid value (DPV) of N143.6 million around Edo state.

In a statement by the Deputy National PRO of Customs, Abubakar Dalhatu, said the feat was recorded by the Customs Strike Force Zone ‘C’.

The team leader, Deputy Comptroller Yusuf Musa said the interceptions were made at various locations within the state and environs based on credible intelligence.

He stated that the stride was made possible due to the resilience, commitment and dedication by his Officers and Men, who at the risk of their personal safety, put in their best to ensure that the job is done.

According to him, the breakdown include 66 sacks of cannabis sativa weighing 1056 kilogrammes, 54 cartons of medicaments, six bales of used hand clothing, 18,640 pieces of wrist watch, 40 bales of wrapper, eight sacks of children wears, 14 cartons of female slippers, 40 bales of wrapper and 30 bags of foreign parboiled rice (50kg each).

DC Musa expressed the determination of his team to maintain the offensive against smugglers no matter the level of threats they continuously send their way.

The Coordinator also solicited the support of members of the public towards making the nation socially, economically and environmentally viable by ensuring compliance to the government’s policies.

The Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (Rtd) had re-organised the strike force team nationwide to strengthen the third layer of Customs security against smuggling and to block revenue leakages.
