According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, and made available to journalists in Warri on Thursday, the arrest followed a meticulous, intelligence-led investigation by officers attached to the Agbor Division.
“On 7 October 2025, a report of a missing person was received at the Agbor Division, indicating that a man identified as Friday Orumgbe, aged 53, of Idumu Oza, Agbor, who left home on 6 October 2025 with his Lifan motorcycle, failed to return.”
Following an investigation ordered by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Michael Obekpa, operatives tracked and arrested Musa Buhari, aged 25, of Alihagu Village, Agbor, on 16 October 2025**. The victim’s Tecno T101 phone was recovered from the suspect.
Under interrogation, Buhari confessed that he and an accomplice, Manu Usman (currently at large), had lured the victim to a bush along Power Line, near Oki, Agbor, pretending to be passengers. They then attacked him with a hoe, rendering him unconscious, before stealing his motorcycle and phone.
Police later led the suspect to the scene of the crime, where the decomposed body of the victim was recovered and identified by relatives. The remains have been deposited at the Central Hospital Mortuary, Agbor, for autopsy.
SP Edafe confirmed that the suspect remains in custody, while efforts continue to track down the fleeing accomplice.
In a related development, operatives from the ‘B’ Division, Warri, arrested a suspected cultist and armed robber, recovering a locally made cut-to-size double-barrelled gun, one live cartridge, and one expended shell.
The arrest followed an intensified night patrol within the Ubeji community on 19 October 2025, ordered by DPO CSP Ya’u Kangiwa, after renewed cult clashes in the area.
At about 3:00 a.m., officers intercepted a gold-coloured Lexus 350 SUV (registration number KWL 359 DS – Abuja) parked suspiciously with two occupants — Christian Agbajor Akpos (33) and Sophia Thomas (26).
A search of the vehicle uncovered a firearm, a battle axe, and ammunition. Preliminary investigations revealed that Akpos is a member of the Maphite Confraternity and the Neo-Black Movement (NBM). He confessed that the gun belonged to a community leader identified as Mr Shimaye, the alleged Deputy Chairman of Ubeji.
Both suspects remain in custody as police pursue other gang members.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the officers for their swift response and professionalism, pledging the Command’s continued focus on intelligence-led operations and community policing.
“The Command remains fully committed to the fight against crime in all forms. We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety of lives and property across Delta State,” Abaniwonda said.
The Delta Command has recorded several operational breakthroughs in recent months — including the arrest of 211 suspects and recovery of ₦8.5 million ransom, 18 firearms, and 350 rounds of ammunition in August 2025.
