A Nigerian human rights activist and one of the early organisers of the campaign against police brutality in the country, Segun Awosanya, has came down hard the occupant of the position of the Minister of Information.
In one of his tweets, Awosanya popularly known through his handle as @segalink stated that a stable mind is needed to manage the voice of any administration and hope to succeed with a complex generation.
“The best of authors who spark morbid curiosity don’t have a litany of books on dying shelves neither are they renowned as bestselling authors. Every state (including the state of mind) is vulnerable to politics, finances & other delicate balances that must be kept at equilibrium.
“The deployment of diplomacy is essential not only in international affairs but across engagements since all politics are local. Lobbies, internal tensions, scandals, vendetta & threats emanate from internal relations before they become weaponized for political purposes.
“Some years back I opined that the position of Minister for information is the most essential of all. One of the most critical pillars of power in any country asides the control of Money, Finance & human activities via Taxation & inflation cum monopoly of violence and the use of intimidation to extract obedience by fear, is the control of group minds, ideas & beliefs. This is why I believe you can’t afford to have a delusional recluse as the voice of any administration and hope to succeed with a complex generation like the 18-35s.
“I got to read a recent communique and must confess I was not just dismayed but appalled. When force fails you don’t inject more force nor do you resort to incite with poor choice of words. It erodes the hope in everything you are doing or have done.
““We can’t afford to look bad” as a policy is counterproductive. You can’t manage the optics when you have no plan to serve, engage or connect to the people you seek validation from. Water is to the Fish what public opinion is to politicians. It is crucial. You’re shackled by it,” SEGA L’éveilleur®
wrote.
Political pundits believe his comments were targeted at the Nigerian Minister of Information and Culture of Nigeria, Lai Raufu Mohammed.
