Frustrated by the continued terror attacks on innocent Nigerians with the security agencies appearing to be overwhelmed, the former Minister of Solid Minerals (Mines and Steel), Obiageli Ezekwesili, has lashed out at the federal government again.
Madam Due Process, as she was fondly called during her time as minister under former president Olusegun Obasanjo, seemed particularly unhappy with the incumbent Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, over a statement credited to him when the latter granted an interview on over 43 slaughtered rice farmers in Borno State.
Mohammed stated yesterday in Makurdi, Benue State that Boko Haram activities may continue unabated as Nigeria has been denied access to acquire the required weapons.
He described the killing of the over 100 rice farmers as ‘unfortunate’ but said “Nigerians will remain at the mercy of terrorists” and noted that to decimate the terrorist group, the country needed more support from global partners as well as acquiring adequate weapons to fight them.
In her reaction, Ezekwesili took to her micro-blogging handle on Twitter and wrote:
Imagine…people who sought for and received legitimacy from citizens to solve problems on their collective behalf sounding defeated.
Imagine the chief spokesperson of government telling citizens that the country is “at the mercy of terrorists”.
