Drug Scandal in Kano State

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State

Drug scandal in Kano State leads to firing of PA involved in arranging bail for suspected drug baron, amid probe of commissioner’s role in bail controversy.

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has sacked two of his Senior Special Assistants (SSAs), Abubakar Umar Sharada and Tasiu Adamu Roba, following their indictment by findings from investigative committees probing separate cases of misconduct.

The Secretary to the State Government, Umar Farouk, who announced the governor’s decision, said while Sharada was sacked for the mastermind role he played in the bail of a suspected drug baron, Sulaiman Aminu Danwawu, while his counterpart, Roba, was relieved of his appointment for involvement in the diversion of palliative grains meant for the vulnerable persons in the state.

Sharada was the personal asssitant to former governor of the state, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

In a statement by the Press Secretary, Office of SSG, Musa Tanko, the Secretary to the State Government said, “In a decisive move, the Governor approved the dismissal of Abubakar Umar Sharada, Senior Special Assistant on Political Mobilisation, after a Special Investigative Committee indicted him as the mastermind of the bail of a dangerous drug baron, Sulaiman Aminu Danwawu, which confirmed Abubakar Sharada’s culpability in the controversial bail process through the personal testimony he deposited before the committee.

“Sharada was directed to hand over all government property in his possession to the Permanent Secretary, Research, Evaluation and Political Affairs (REPA), Office of the SSG, on or before the close of work on Monday, 11th August 2025.

“He was also cautioned against parading himself henceforth as a public officer under the present administration.

“Similarly, the Governor relieved Tasiu Adamu Al’amin Roba, Senior Special Assistant, Cabinet Office, of his appointment after his arrest for rebagging palliative grains at a warehouse in Sharada in 2024.

“Roba has since been arraigned in court and is facing charges of theft and criminal conspiracy for allegedly diverting public assets.

“Tasiu Adamu Al’amin Roba is also directed to hand over all government properties in his possession, including his ID card, on or before Monday, 11th August 2025. He is also cautioned against parading himself as a public official under the current administration.”

According to the statement, in a related development, the state government exonerated Hon. Musa Ado Tsamiya, Special Adviser on Drainages, who was cleared of all allegations by an investigative committee, affirming his innocence.

“Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to discipline, transparency, and zero tolerance for corruption, warning all public officials to uphold the highest standards of integrity both in their official duties and private lives.

“By this statement, the general public are advised not to engage the two sacked political appointees on any issue related to Kano state government; whoever does that, he or she does it at his or her own risk,” the statement, however, reads.

Recall that earlier in the week, the State’s Commissioner for Transportation, Ibrahim Namadi, also resigned his position following his indictment by the report of the investigative committee over the role he played in the controversial bail of the suspected drug baron, Sulaiman Aminu Danwawu.
