Edo 2024: Why APC cannot afford to bungle this golden opportunity

I have received well over five hundred calls from associates, all wondering why the Edo APC leader, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, is in the news for all the wrong reasons.

Many wonder if the news of his alleged imposition of a stooge is true. To that, I had no clear response, but on the issue of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu’s aspiration, everyone agrees that Oshiomhole would be self-sabotaging the APC if he denies the man with the best credentials for the job, the most popular, and the most widely accepted aspirant for the party ticket.

Juxtaposed against the list of candidates presented by the PDP, Ize-Iyamu dwarfs all in every area, including widespread acceptance. It is therefore flabbergasting that the APC primaries would become a maze of contradictions, a tale of stooges and favoritism where everyone expected the party, as the opposition in Edo, to take full advantage of the confusion in the PDP and its dim prospects in the forthcoming election.

We Edoans now wonder if Oshiomhole is bigger than the party itself because, if the spreading news is to be believed, he is steering the party into a destructive quicksand from which it may never recover.

However, we are full of gratitude to the APC National for putting Adams Oshiomhole on hold and halting his earlier plan to impose candidates chosen by him and his compromised screening committee.

Nevertheless, we want the party to realize that this is an election it must put its best foot forward, and as we all know, at this moment, Ize-Iyamu remains the candidate who can commandeer the grassroots. Being Edo’s most seasoned grassroots favorite, he is the most popular candidate going by all indices. He has been adopted across all LGAs in Edo and remains the only one with a clear agenda, prepared, honed, and perfected over the years. Most importantly, the people love him and regret giving Godwin Obaseki their votes in the last election, for obvious reasons.

Indeed, it is the best General who leads the war. APC cannot afford to bungle this one. It would be a crying shame if they did. Ize-Iyamu is the General trusted to deliver.
