EFCC suspends operatives over Oladips extortion claim after rapper alleges ₦10m payment for release; agency vows full investigation and accountability
EFCC Oladips extortion allegations have prompted the suspension of several operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) accused of collecting ₦10 million from Nigerian rapper Oladipupo Oladimeji, popularly known as Oladips.

The commission’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the suspension in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja, noting that a full-scale investigation had been launched into the incident.
Oladips had earlier accused EFCC operatives of detaining him for five days and demanding ₦10 million before granting him freedom, despite allegedly finding no evidence of wrongdoing.
According to Oyewale, the EFCC considers the Oladips extortion allegations “grave” and has already taken action by removing the implicated officers from their operational duties pending the outcome of investigations.
“The commission wishes to state unreservedly that the grim picture painted by the artist does not reflect the true image of the EFCC,” he said.
“The officers involved have been summoned to the commission’s headquarters in Abuja for questioning.”
He assured the public that the EFCC remains committed to integrity and transparency, stressing that any staff member found guilty of extortion or misconduct would face disciplinary action.
“The commission is serious about its value of integrity and will take necessary action against any staff found culpable.
However, if the allegation is found to be false and intended to tarnish the image of the EFCC, appropriate sanctions will also follow,” Oyewale added.
Oladips’ case has sparked widespread attention on social media, with many Nigerians urging the EFCC to ensure transparency and justice.
