NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF EMURE LOCAL GOVERNMENT STUDENTS’ UNION (NAELGS)
IN CONJUNCTION WITH
EMURE YOUTH FORUM (EYF)

Press Release

🗓️ 23rd June, 2025

RE: RESPONSE TO EKITI STATE ELECTRICITY BOARD’S MEMO TITLED

“REHABILITATION OF ISE/EMURE 33KV NETWORK – RECOVERY OF ALUMINUM CONDUCTOR AT ALAPOTO COMMUNITY’S AFFORESTATION”

To:
Engr. Abegunde Taiwo, the Ag. General Manager,
Ekiti State Electricity Board,
Ministry of Works Premises, Ajilosun,
Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

With All Due Respect We Say: NO.

The National Association of Emure Local Government Students’ Union (NAELGS), with the Emure Youth Forum (EYF), issues this release to totally reject and vehemently condemn the contents of your memo dated 19th March, 2025, which seeks to recover aluminum conductors from the Alapoto Afforestation site in Emure to support the 33KV rehabilitation network.

•A Community Long Abandoned, Now Targeted for Exploitation

For over nine (9) months, Emure Local Government has endured total blackout crippling lives, businesses, education, health services, and social development. In that time, no intervention has come from the state government or its electricity board.

Now, rather than fixing our suffering, you seek to loot what remains of our infrastructure a move that reeks of oppression, abandonment, and systemic exploitation.

•Misgovernance Disguised as Rehabilitation

This decision is not only morally bankrupt, it is logistically indefensible. You cannot rob a dying patient to treat another. What kind of government takes from the neglected to patch up regional politics? This is not rehabilitation it is institutional theft under the mask of “recovery.”

Who Gave You the Mandate? Not Emure.

The Emure Ekiti Progressive Association (EEPA) has no mandate and authority to stop the Government as their hands were tight and can’t do much about it.

Though they can’t be blamed as the Government had carried out this unacceptable act before EEPA was informed.

•Ekiti State Government Must Answer for This

This action is clearly state sanctioned. Therefore, we hold the Government of Ekiti State accountable and demand:

Why was Emure excluded from direct rehabilitation efforts despite months of total darkness?

Who authorized the removal of assets from Emure for external use, and under what legal or ethical justification?

Why is a suffering community being further stripped of its minimal infrastructure?

OUR DEMANDS – NON-NEGOTIABLE

We issue the following demands, with a strict deadline of seven (7) days:

•Immediate halt to any recovery or removal activities in Alapoto, Emure LGA.

•Return of all aluminum conductors already taken.

•Immediate restoration of electricity to Emure Local Government.

•Official, public apology and explanation from the Government of Ekiti State and the Electricity Board for this unjust act.

•FINAL WARNING: YOUTHS/STUDENTS RESISTANCE LOOMS

Should our demands not be met within the stipulated time:

The students and youths of Emure, under the banner of NAELGS and EYF, will initiate a massive peaceful protest across Emure Local Government and beyond.

We will occupy spaces. We will demand answers. We will not be silenced.

This is not a threat. It is a warning born out of injustice.

WE ARE FROM EMURE. WE WILL NOT BE ERASED.

We are not a people to be looted.
We are not a people to be ignored.
We are the voice of the youth and that voice will be heard.

E-Signed:
Comr. Onile Olaniyi Mayowa
National President, NAELGS

Comr. Akinyemi Leah
