Emir of Gusau, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, has died at age 71 in Abuja after a long illness. Zamfara Governor Lawal mourns the respected traditional ruler
The Emir of Gusau, His Royal Highness Dr. Ibrahim Bello, has passed away at the age of 71. The prominent Zamfara monarch died on Friday in Abuja after battling a prolonged illness.

His death was confirmed in an official statement released by Sulaiman Idris, spokesperson to Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal.
Governor Lawal expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the Emir of Gusau, describing him as a wise and dependable monarch who devoted his life to the peace and development of Zamfara State.
“I received with deep sadness the news of the passing of our father, His Royal Highness, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau.
I have lost a confidant and a father whose wisdom guides me and other state leaders. May the Almighty Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah,” said Governor Lawal.
Born in 1954, Ibrahim Bello had a distinguished career in the civil service, rising to the rank of Permanent Secretary in the old Sokoto and Zamfara States.
He ascended the throne in March 2015 as the 16th Emir of Gusau, following the death of his father.
Throughout his reign, the late emir was instrumental in fostering social harmony and cultural preservation in Zamfara. He was widely respected for his integrity, leadership, and dedication to public service.
Dr. Bello’s over 10-year reign was marked by his efforts to modernize traditional leadership while remaining deeply rooted in Islamic values and Hausa customs.
His passing marks the end of a significant era for Gusau Emirate and Zamfara State as a whole.

Funeral arrangements and official mourning plans are expected to be announced by the Gusau Emirate Council in the coming days.
