The reports making rounds that the Lagos State government has dismantled shanties around the Lekki Toll Gate because the resident witnessed the October 20, 2020 shooting of protesters have been debunked.
Recall that the infamous #EndSARS which was alleged to have recorded casualties is revving as there are new agitations over the handing over of tollgate back to LCC, the company responsible for the collection of tolls, by the panel set up by the state government to address the demands of the protesters.
The new edition of the protest is slated for Saturday, February 13, 2021.
A source close to the state government claimed there was no truth in the report as the shanties were demolished because they posed security threats.
“This isn’t the true story; the shanties were housing criminals and a distortion of the master plan,” a source who didnt want his name in press said.
On further investigation by Freelanews, it was revealed that there had been reported cases of kidnapping in tge area which necessitated the need for ‘the shanties to go’.
Freelanews can authoritatively report that in the early hours of Wednesday, February 10, 2021, the official of Lagos taskforce were still dismantling and burning some shanties in company of policemen.
Freelanews will continue to monitor event as they occur and update its readers.
