Enugu, April 10, 2024: Enugu State Police operatives, assisted by vigilant citizens, arrested Mmaduabuchi Okonkwo, 24, at the Old IMT Bus Stop, Abakaliki Road, for possession and usage of counterfeit Naira notes.
Okonkwo, a resident of Mkpologu, Emene, Enugu, was apprehended with ₦40,000 in suspected counterfeit one thousand denominated Naira notes. His arrest followed a swift response to a minibus driver’s alert upon receiving one of the fake notes from Okonkwo.
Daniel Ndukwe, the Command’s spokesman, disclosed that Okonkwo confessed to exchanging ₦25,000 genuine Naira notes for ₦50,000 worth of counterfeit currency with an accomplice. He admitted to spending ₦10,000 of the fake notes, with ₦40,000 seized from him.
Ndukwe added that Okonkwo will face prosecution upon the conclusion of investigations. The Enugu State Police remain committed to curbing financial fraud and ensuring public safety.
