Tureta is accused of spreading defamatory falsehoods against the governor and his wife. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the offense took place on July 18, 2024.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Abdurahman Mansur, stated that the accusations contravene the penal code law.

At the first hearing, which took place on August 26, Tureta denied the charges. His defense counsel, Al’Mustafa Abubakar, requested bail on his behalf, but the prosecution objected, and the magistrate postponed the ruling on the bail application.
Chief Magistrate Fatima Hassan emphasized that the only document presented was the FIR. Given the nature of the charges, she insisted that the defense must formally submit a bail application.
The case was adjourned to September 18 for further hearing, and the accused has been remanded in custody at a correctional centre.
