A devastating motor vehicle accident before Nyanya Bridge in the FCT resulted in 14 vehicles burning, leaving six confirmed dead
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed a tragic motor vehicle accident that took place on Wednesday evening, just before Nyanya Bridge.

The incident, which involved a Dangote trailer, resulted in 14 vehicles being burnt and several casualties.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, the accident occurred when a Dangote trailer, heavily loaded with cement, lost control while approaching Nyanya Bridge from AYA.
The trailer crashed into several stationary vehicles trapped in traffic, causing a massive inferno.
Eyewitnesses initially reported that more than 10 people had lost their lives in the incident, but the police confirmed that six victims were pulled from the wreckage of the burnt vehicles and later died at the hospital.
“The distress call was received on Wednesday evening by Karu Division regarding a horrifying scene,” said SP Adeh.
“A Dangote trailer, heavily loaded with cement and approaching Nyanya Bridge from AYA, had lost control and crashed into stationary vehicles. The collision ignited a fierce fire, engulfing 14 vehicles in flames.”
Emergency responders, including police operatives, fire service personnel, and other security agencies, rushed to the scene to contain the fire.
The intense heat and thick smoke posed significant challenges for rescuers, but they managed to extract victims from the wreckage and rush them to the hospital. Tragically, six victims succumbed to their injuries and were confirmed dead by medical personnel at the hospital.
“Their remains have been deposited at the Karu General Hospital Morgue,” SP Adeh added. “The police, in collaboration with fire service personnel, other security agencies, and courageous individuals at the scene, successfully contained the inferno. Traffic has now been restored to normal.”
In the aftermath of the accident, victims were taken to the National Hospital and Asokoro Hospital, which are currently overwhelmed with casualties from the tragic event.

The FCT Police Command is continuing to investigate the cause of the accident, while offering condolences to the families affected by the devastating crash.
