Former governor of Ogun State and senator-elect, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has expressed worry over the torrential flooding affecting the gateway state, especially Sagamu.
Recently, the downpour has been causing unimaginable devastation which included loss of lives and properties of the citizen.
In a statement made available to Freelanews, OGD, as the former governor is fondly called, aside from showing empathy, has made provisions for relief materials through Gateway Front Foundation, an non-governmental organisation wholly funded by him.
“I am troubled by reports of the flooding disaster in many parts of Sagamu following torrential rainfall. This devastation, which I am told has claimed at least a life, and destroyed properties and people’s livelihoods worth millions of naira, is one too many.
“My heartfelt prayers are with all those who are affected by this unfortunate incident.

“While I have instructed that some relief materials be made available to some of the victims via the Gateway Front Foundation, I call on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to urgently come to our people’s aid,” he stated.
In 2022, no fewer than 4,885 households were destroyed by flood in the state, according to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
“As we continue to brace up against the challenges of climate change, we hope that the government will speed up negotiations with the Ecological Fund Office to fast-track a lasting solution to this environmental challenge,” Otunba Daniel prayed.
