Governor Hycinth Alia of Benue State has detailed security agencies to rescue the Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism, Matthew Abo, who was abducted by gunmen on Sunday.
The governor also ordered the rescue of Iorwashima Erukaa, a former chairman of Ukum Local Government Area, who was kidnapped on Saturday.
The armed men reportedly whisked Mr Abo from his Sankara home at about 8 p.m.
Reports also say the kidnappers have made contacts with the family of Mr Erukaa but have yet to make contacts with the commissioner’s family.
It is unclear if ransom demands were made, but the government has promised to ensure the safe return of the two men.
On Friday last week, a large number of bandits stormed the Sabon-Gida community located within the Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, where many students from the Federal University, Gusau, reside off-campus, and abducted an unspecified number of females.
About 13 of the girls have so far been rescued, but an unknown number is still missing.
