The former gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, GRV, has called on the state government to ensure adequate compensation and planning for the displaced residents of Oworoshoki, under the Kosofe Local Government.
The politician made the call today while reacting to the Save Our Souls message by one of the affected residents who cried out to the government and the monarch in the area over an alleged state-sponsored demolition.
According to Reborn on X, formerly known as Twitter, over 8,000 people have been rendered homeless after the demolition of more than 500 houses.

“I am calling on well-meaning Nigerians to please intervene for the people of Oworoshoki in Kosofe LGA, Lagos.
“The Lagos state government & the Oba of Oworoshoki have demolished over 500 houses and rendered over 8,000 people homeless with no form of compensation,” he wrote with visuals to support his claims.
He also added that the demolition has left several children and elderly women and men homeless with nowhere to go.
“A lot of us were already struggling with the hard economy, and now we are faced with untold hardship. Some of our leaders of the Oworoshoki community have visited Alausa to plead with the Lagos State Government, but still, the pleas seem to have fallen on deaf ears.
“We have taken to the streets today to protest this evil act, but we need Nigerians to help us,” he stated.
In his response, while empathising with the people, Rhodes-Vivour stated that these residents are the backbone of Lagos.
“These people are the very backbone of Lagos.
“We cannot displace our humans without compensating & planning for them.
“Sending them to the streets also leaves us all at risk as they’re left to desperate means such as CRIME.
“The economy is already too hard for such poor policy action,” he wrote.
