Nigeria’s leading commercial bank, Guarantee Trust Bank (GTBank), has categorically denied reports claiming that its website was hacked and customer data intercepted in a phishing operation. According to an insider from the bank, the allegations are entirely false.
A top GTBank executive clarified that the disruptions experienced by the bank were due to connectivity issues, unrelated to any hacking activities.
“It’s false. What we are experiencing is a connectivity issue and has nothing to do with the alleged hacking,” the source explained.
This statement comes in response to circulating reports suggesting that hackers had compromised the bank’s website, leading to a massive phishing operation targeting customers.
