Hisbah confiscates beer in Kano

Hisbah confiscates beer in Kano as officials seize 1,600 bottles in Panshekara. The board vows to intensify its crackdown on alcohol sales

Hisbah confiscates beer in Kano after officials seized no fewer than 1,600 bottles of assorted alcoholic drinks in the Panshekara area of Kano metropolis.

Deputy Commander General of the board, Dr. Mujahid Aminudeen, confirmed the operation during a telephone interview on Wednesday.

According to Aminudeen, the confiscation was made possible following a tip-off and the cooperation of the local community.

“Yesterday, with the support and cooperation of the Panshekara community, our personnel were able to intercept and confiscate 1,600 bottles of beer. The beer was in bottles, cans, and plastic containers,” he said.

He emphasized that the Hisbah law prohibits the sale and consumption of alcohol in Kano State, and warned that the board will continue its efforts to clamp down on all intoxicants.

Aminudeen noted that the board would seek a court order for the destruction of the seized beer while also intensifying campaigns to educate the public about the dangers of alcohol consumption.

“Our personnel will not relent in ensuring that the sale and drinking of beer becomes a thing of the past in Kano,” he added.

The incident comes weeks after the Yobe State Hisbah Commission destroyed a large quantity of alcoholic drinks and prosecuted suspects in a similar operation.

The Kano State Hisbah Board has repeatedly stressed that its mission is to enforce Islamic morals, warning residents against what it described as “immoral acts” linked to alcohol use.
