[dropcap]V[/dropcap]eteran journalist and social commentator Jimi Disu has openly criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for approving the sum of ₦39 billion to renovate the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja.

Disu expressed outrage over the staggering cost, especially when compared to the original construction cost of ₦240 million in 1991 under the Babangida administration.
“See the level to which sycophancy has been elevated in this administration,” Disu remarked, pointing to what he called an era of reckless public spending under Tinubunomics.
He further condemned the reported daily placement of expensive front-page adverts in national newspapers, as well as the extravagant monthly media chart allegedly sponsored by Wike.
In this era of Tinubunomics, nothing can be more wasteful and needless.
According to Disu, these actions represent a gross misallocation of public funds at a time when Nigerians are grappling with inflation, high living costs, and economic uncertainty.
“In this era of Tinubunomics, nothing can be more wasteful and needless,” he said, warning that such actions risk further eroding public trust in government and deepening perceptions of elite excess at the expense of the people.

Many citizens have since taken to social media to echo Disu’s sentiments, calling for greater accountability and prioritisation of critical infrastructure and social welfare over cosmetic renovations and political self-promotion.
